International Education Advisory Committee

Mission: To provide Ohioans with the necessary knowledge, abilities and opportunities to thrive in a global society

In 2006 the Ohio Department of Education received a grant from the Longview Foundation to create an International Education Advisory Committee (IEAC) charged with:

  • Creating a vision for a strategic educational response to globalization and technological progress
  • Forging partnerships between P-12, higher education, business, foundations and government to accomplish shared goals and accelerate change.

The IEAC consists of educators, businesses, foundations, policy makers and community organizations who believe that Ohio must plan strategically and take action to prepare students to succeed in the world of the 21st Century.

International education is vital to Ohio’s economy. Students with international perspectives will play key roles in health care, politics, national security and environmental preservation. They will be working with people from other countries no matter what their occupation or role in society.  Students must be prepared to succeed in this international context with the knowledge and skills that will enable them to understand global systems.
